Thank you Bea. It was your openess to share your information that allowed us to go so far. When I saw your son's web page I knew there was a connection and that story also gave me a little snapshot of how my grandfather reasoned - and for him and his family his reasoning paid off well. 
 
A special thanks should also be given to Jerry Frank. It was one his posts on the gpv-listserve that I read where he recommended everyone to do simple searches with Google or other search engines using narrow paradigms like "Surname +town" So I took his advice and in Google typed in "Hapke +Chelm" and that gave me 4 hits at that time - all of them valuable. One was your son's page and 2 others lead to me another person who is my third cousin. That relationship we have allowed us to make unimaginable progress through working together. Doing similar searches I have also found a second cousin of my mother in Germany (plus his daughter = another 3rd cousin) and many 4th and probably 5th cousins between Germany, US, Canada via my Taron linkage.
