After the Polish-German war in September 1939 a German institution tried to find out, who of the ethnic German population was killed or missed. The name of this institution was "Zentrale fuer die Graeber der ermordeten Volksdeutschen", and it was in Posen/Poznan (Centrala do Spraw Grobow Niemieckich w Polsce - Poznan).
The officers of this institution sent out <span id="result_box" class="short_text" lang="en"><span class="hps">questionnaire</span></span> to each county, which were represented by the "Landrat". The "Landrat" forwarded the questionnaires to the villages, represented by the "Amtskommissar". The title of the questionnaires was "Erfassung der waehrend des Polenfeldzuges ermordeten und vermissten Volksdeutschen." The questionnaires, which have been sent back, were collected by the counties and in several cases lists of the collected and completed questionnaires were added!<span id="result_box" class="short_text" lang="en"><span class="hps">
</span></span>In several cases the county folders do not or not only contain completed questionnaires, but also copies of the death records from the civil offices. -
Now this collection of documents was digitalized by the Poznan Archives and can be researched by the link above! (You do not have parishes, but counties!)
I would like to explain it with an example: Emil Pankratz was born on 06 Oct 1889 in Lipowiec, Lipno county, to David Pankratz and Paulina Freier. He arrived in Ellis Island on 19 April 1913 together with his first cousin Ludwig (Louis) Pankratz (1996-1980), who is an older brother of my paternal grandmother Emma Pankratz Jabs (1909-1979). Emil and Ludwig Pankratz appear in the US Federal Census of 1920, both living in Bayonne, NJ. - Emil Pankratz must have gone back to Lipno county, Poland:

I was able to learn, that Emil Pankratz was married to Marta Pankratz nee Ristau. He lived in Radomice, Lipno county, before he died. His body was found on 20 April 1940 in Gostynin county. The death certificate was made out on 14 October 1941. - The named birth certificate (number and date) and the parents fit to the birth entry, which had been found in the church records of Ossowka, Lipno county!
