[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Old German Proverb

During the festive season my father would tease my Mother with this proverb

The Church is near
But the road is icy

The Tavern is so far away
But we will walk carefully.

I have forgotten the original German rhyme but could someone help me to get my
German grammar correct in the following.

Die Kirche ist so nah
Aber die Stra_e ist eisig

Das Wirtshaus ist weg weit
Aber wir werden vorsichtige gehen
