Hi Julian,
as it seems the name comes from Scotland (125 events in the IGI).
In Germany there is a village Kantow, now part of Wusterhausen / Dosse,
northwest of Berlin, and just one event of the surename KANDOW from
Stettin, Pommern, Preussen, and one more of KANTOW from Danzig,
Westpreussen, Preussen in the IGI.

The only event of the surename KANDOW in the German telephone register
(Gordon Arthur KANDOW of Duesseldorf) is apparently of Scottish origin.
The six events of the surename KANTOW are all in northeastern Germany
and visibly related to the village of Kantow.
