Gary and Jerry, I'm finding more and more familiar names among the small towns in the area you've pointed me to (Mitnija/Mytnija) I'm now pretty much convinced that my family is indeed from that area.  I'm going to go through the lists with my Dad this weekend to see if he can pick out any more familiar names.  Thanks for your help.  Will probably be back with additional questions.
