[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] MANZEI, was: Re: Deutsche Geschlechterbuch

Other list members have suggested this spelling as well as MANTEI,
MANCEI, etc. However the few MANZEI'S and MANZEI descendants I been in
touch with indicate the origins of the name may be Danzig area. Wouldn't
it have been German speaking at the time?

It is very likely, that Manzei comes from Manthey (spoken an English 
"th")?

German names became very variable in Poland and Russia.

e.g.:

BOLLEY (from Wuertemberg) became POLLEY -> POLLEG (misreading the Y as 
a G) -> POLLEC.
The Y at the end of MANTHEY (from Wuertemberg) was misread in the same 
way as a G and became MANTIK.
And I bet, that WORK was a misunderstandig of WOELK.
