[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Lowicz Poland history question

To answer your question about famine. Yes, potato famines did affect other
parts of the world, not just Ireland. The Great Hunger of 1846/7 was
perhaps the greatest of these, but there had been famines before in Ireland,
but certainly not to that extent. It was so devastating in Ireland because
the Irish people were so heavily dependent on the potato as part of their
diet. But writers such as deTocqueville have remarked that that diet had
also made them some of the healthiest looking peasantry in all of Europe.
The interesting thing about the Great Hunger is that the particular blight
that infected Ireland actually came from seed potatoes imported from the
USA. How ironic is that?!

Did the Potato Famine affect other parts of the world?

Jerry wrote an excellent answer.

An other cause about large number in the death records in this time can be
the potato with influences to Russian-Poland too ...
