Virginia Matalat is the grandmother of a friend of mine. The family oral
history has her as German and being born in Volhynia. The other side of the
family is Norwegian. Her son was born in 1896, an exact birth year is not
available for her, hence the possible birth years in the listed in the thread. It
is a fishing expedition, however, wanted to toss it out in case someone
happened to know the name. The family grew up Lutheran, so I think it is safe to
assume the same for the Volhynian religious affiiliation.

Victor:

Can you give us more info about this person such as why you expect to
find her in Volhynia? Was she Lutheran, Catholic, Baptist,
or??? From what I can gather with GOOGLE, the Matalat surname may be
of Finnish origin.
