The endings may seem minor but they do convey different meanings or context.

...ow. owo, owa all mean place or village (Janow = John's place)

...owka is the same but "little" (Janowka = John's little village)

...ice = plural possession (Janowice = place of the sons of John)

...iec = singular possession (Biskupiec = place owned by the Bishop)

...wisna = village of (Blaskowisna = village of Blasko - not implying 
ownership)

...wyzszy = higher

...nizne = lower

...pol = city (Annopol = Anna's city)
