[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] GOOGLE Earth update

Some time ago we suggested that you use this feature to zoom right in on your ancestral villages. Quality was not always great because of the resolution of the images.

I just wanted to point out that GOOGLE makes ongoing updates to this quality. There are quite a few areas in Volhynia now where you can zoom in to the level of viewing the farm buildings and vehicles on the roads.

Regions around Zhitomir (including to the north and up around Korosten) and Luck, plus large areas north of Rowno west of Kostopol, and east of Rowno down to Ostrog can now be viewed at this level of detail.

Similarly for Russia Poland, regions NE of Kalisch as far as Turek, NW of Lowicz, SE of Lublin, the region around Warsaw, etc. are all available in high resolution.

Be aware that GOOGLE Earth will not always recognize the spelling you have for your village or town. In spite of that, GOOGLE also continues to add more and smaller towns to those marked on the map. It will help if you can identify the location on a regular map and use rivers and roads as features to focus in on your village.

Other hints for browsing:
- Set your Layers to show terrain, roads and populated areas.
- Zoom into around 90-100 miles elevation

Those settings will allow you to see major towns and roads which will help you to locate the approximate position of your village. A cautionary note about roads highlighted by GOOGLE in this part of the world - they are not exact locations but are close enough to allow their use as a finding aid.
