I have been pronouncing the name like "Der kiss", is this the correct way to say the name or is it like "Der keys"? Also, I have been told that the name came from Derks. Does anyone know any history of the name? Thank you very much for any information you can give me.

Hello Linda,
DERKES is pronounced daarkiss with accented aa. It derives from (is the
genitive of) DIERK or DIRK. The writings DIRKES, DIERKES and DÖRKES are
also common surnames.

DIERK, DERK, DÖRK, DERICK, DERIK, DEREK are all Northern German
abrasions of DIETRICH.
