Winnipeg had the Nordwesten and the Courier, both published in German, at
that time. Yes, they have both been archived and can be searched. They are
on microfilm, but since you already have the dates the search would probably
be quite easy. (Bear in mind of course that the obituaries would not appear
in the ethnic press as quickly as they would in the dailies.)

The microfilms are held in libraries such as the Manitoba Provincial Library
in Winnipeg, Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa, and the University of
Alberta in Edmonton, but coverage dates vary. You could also probably order
the films into your local library branch.

There were also church publications, printed in German, that published
obituaries. For example, Der Sendbote was for Baptists. An index to many of
these obituaries is found at http://www.ahsgrsoar.org/ .
