I knew of a Ben Appelt (a jeweller) and his son Bert Appelt at Morden, Manitoba, Canada in the 1950s and the son later continued to operate the shop until at least the 1970s. I have a 1959 picture of them which I could scan and attach to a private email if you wish.
I also today did a country-wide search in the Canada411 telephone directory (from a link at www.sympatico.msn.ca ) for the Appelt surname and 58 names (with their phone numbers and addresses) showed up from locations scattered all across the country.
