Hello all: The Washington Post reports this morning that the US Archives has signed a deal with Amazon to reproduce and sell on DVD copies of historic films and videotape.

The article does not specifically mention any plans to expand the program to include copies of records held at Archives. But an Archives spokeperson said the Amazon deal was part of a larger goal to expand access to its collections.

The first DVDs went on sale on Amazon July 26. They include footage from the Archives' "Universal Newsreels" collection, which dates from 1920 to 1967. Under a separate pilot program, about 100 other Archives films are available free on Google.
