yes, a special lice ointment was made of pork dripping, staphisagria or 
hellebore and mercury!
By the way, a mercury ointment was also used against syphilis. W.A. 
Mozart, L.v.Beethoven, F.Schubert, H.Heine, F.Chopin, H.de 
Toulouse-Lautrec, V.van Gogh, G.de Maupassant, E.A.Poe and F.Nietzsche 
were told to have used it.
