A week or so ago we learned of the death of Dale Lee Wahl, a true friend of Volhynia researchers even if his own roots were a thousand kilometres to the southeast. Many of us met him at the Tacoma event in 2001.
Dale's obituary appeared on Sunday in the Kitsap Sun, Bremerton, Wa. I have copied it below.
Dale Wahl of Bremerton
Feb. 20, 1938 to June 13, 2008
Dale Lee Wahl, age 70, passed away from pancreatic cancer on June 13, 2008 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He was born in Twin Falls, Idaho on February 20, 1938 to Theodore and Josephine Wahl.
Dale married June V. Oberg on June 24, 1961, in Millington, Tenn. He served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years. After retiring in 1978, he went to work for Lockheed Martin at naval Sub Base Bangor. After leaving Lockheed, he spent the rest of his life as a family historian with Germans from Russia Heritage Society.
Dale was preceded in death by his father Theodore. He is survived by his wife of 47 years June Wahl; mother Josephine Wahl of Oregon, his sons Robert (Kristy) of California, David (Valerie) of Bremerton, Jason of Bremerton and daughter Robin Wahl Elkins of Poulsbo.
Dale also left behind 9 grandchildren: Brandon, Kayla, Amanda, Taylor, Kyle, Kelsey, Dylan, Zoe and Aaron. He is also survived by a brother Arthur (Gene) Wahl and sister Trena Patterson, both of Oregon. There are numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins (second, third, fourth, etc.) he is survived by, of whom several he discovered through his genealogy research.
There will be no services.
