If you go back to the original source of the manifest document and 
re-download it you may be able to save a larger file which will provide 
better resolution.

I searched for Emil Schmidt on the Ellis Island website and came up with 
a 17 year old who arrived in 1906...but it looks like his father's name 
was Friedrich. Did not find an 18 year old arriving in 1907.

But back to my original point, the document I found was quite readable.
