Hello Rose-Marie,
the cause of death "Krämpfe" was also called "Fraisen" which in most 
cases ment tetany (see 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetany_(medical_sign) ) resulting from 
frequent (annual) pregancies of the mother. A good explanation -
