The Libarary of Congress has an amazing collection of photographs taken in Russia between 1919 and 1914. They are known as the Prokudin-Gorskii Collection of negatives. The photographer took separate photos in yellow, blue, and red negatives then projected them simultaneously to create a color image of amazing clarity and brightness. Some of the images are on a website at http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/08/russia_in_color_a_century_ago.html
You can also see more of these photgraphs, including the superimposed negatives generating a full color view at the LOC website at

Amazing photos, many worthwhile for helping one gain a sense of what our ancestors may have seen and experienced.
