[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] translating occupation

Thanks to all the people who emailed me. Since the copy is so unclear I've
had some requests to type the word out. It is:

_ _ e s l i    (the s has an accent)

Yesterday I found the word ciesla in the dictionary which means carpenter
but I'm pretty sure the last letter is an i not an a. I'm wondering if there
are any other possibilities.
