It seems that we are onto old German proverbs this week. So here is an opportunity to get the original German translation of an old Volhynian proverb. It was 

quoted quite often by my Father, much to the dismay of my Mother.


“The Church is near

But the road is icy

The Tavern is far

But we will walk carefully.”
