I have just stumbled upon a letter I received from the Central Archives in
Warsaw a couple of years ago and thought it might be helpful to repeat what
they told me. I had asked whether the passport requests found by Hans Hopf
in 1940-41 were still available in the Archives. They told me that 2/3 of
the holdings of which they were a part were destroyed in 1944, but that they
still had records of the "Personal Chancellory of the Governor in the
Kingdom of Poland Passport Department." This contains requests for passports
between 1831 and 1863, and they have an index to about 1400 names. They
will do lookups. If this is of interest to anyone, the email address is
sekretariat at agad.gov.pl.
