[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Hauf

In case many don't know, towns listed in EWZ should held suspect until you can really pin it down with other evidence. I am especially speaking of towns listing birth places of parents that are not near where the family reporting lived in 1940. Putnowice is a reasonable guess by one of Daniel's children for what should have been Parzniewice.

Hi Dolly,
In my 2007 message to you about the Hauf family in Belchatow, I said
"The Hauffs lived in Parzniewice and the Jubins lived in Pawlow. This two
villages are very close together about 12 km SE of Belchatow. "
Possibly Parzniewice is the place Putnowice mentioned by Karl.
Dick

I looked at the MPD and found the Daniel Haufs you are talking about. One of
them with two wives gives this as his birth place and me as the source from
my EWZ extractions.
Putnowice Kolonia&Gorne&Wielkie, Chelm, Lubelskie, Poland

Putnowice was probably on the EWZ record but everything following that must
be incorrect. I do not recognize that place being near Lublin and the Lublin
database does not have this birth suggesting he probably was not born near
there. SGGEE0032 gave the birth as Posnowicz so who know who is right. If
you have an actual birth record that should be right. Does Dick Stein's
information give that to you? Try to find a town with similar spelling near
Belchatow.

I'm in with Sigrid. The two are probably the same. Try to find if Daniel's
parents die in the Lublin database.
Karl

Dolly,

The difference between the two reported birth dates is 12 days. That's
exactly the difference between the Julian and Gregorian calendars. The
Gregorian date which we use would be the later date. Polish and German
records would have used that date. Russian officials who had anything to
do with requiring dates would have insisted upon the Julian calendar
date. So, if you also have other information that shows this Daniel Hauf
to be part of this family, I think the calendar issue resolves the
difference in birth dates.

Sigrid Pohl Perry
