  Hello Helen,

I think I've found something for you, in the Liverpool
passenger lists, and the Canadian lists:

       There were a J. Eisbrenner (26) and a J Eisbrenner (2), booked
on the "Dominion" from Liverpool to Quebec, leaving 15 Sept 1898,
but they missed the boat; and travelled instead on the "Vancouver",
  which left Liverpool 6 Oct 1898, arrived Quebec/Montreal 16 Oct 1898.

In the Canadian passenger list their names are given
as Justina and Julius Eisbrenner, nation Russian German,
  destination Gretna, Man.

That's a perfect match for your family,

              Paul Rakow
              Liverpool

> I cannot help directly but you might find it helpful to split your researchers into two different areas. For example, it appears that August E. and Augusta M. were married in Volhynia in 1896 but where? The Eisbrenner and Mielke surnames are scattered throughout Volhynia. The marriage record might give you an accurate clue to their origins in Russian Poland IF it contains their places of birth. A researcher in Zhitomir may be able to help find such a record in Zhitomir Archives and may also have access to similar records in Rowno or Luck. He would unlikely be able to help with further research in Russian Poland.
>
> Another researcher in Poland may be able to help with that. You don't mention specifics of what info you have there. For example we have in our MPD an August Eisbrenner born 12 Feb 1865 in Przedworszczyzna, Konin, Wielkopolskie, Poland. That date is 14 days before you date which could be a perfect for changing the date from Julian to Gregorian calenders. I strongly suspect this is the right person but you have no absolute proof without a marriage or death record that confirms a place of birth. If you had other info about his siblings, you might be able to prove this through the names of the parents.
>
> The Augusta Mielke record is probably not in our database because her birth was after records changed to Cyrillic and not many of those records are extracted by us. Again a researcher with experience in Cyrillic even locally could help with those as the records are microfilmed or online.
