[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Good Software to Translate German to English

I have found Polish and Russian translations flow smoothly, but German
translations often read odd and need further 'interpretation'.

I've noticed that Google translate handles formal German fairly well, but
falls apart dealing with 'conversational' German - (i.e. emails.)

I read an essay once that described the reasoning on this oddity,
had to do with informal German tending to run together words that
translation
machines can't separate (i.e. Google), etc.

And of course the German of: "throw me down the stairs my hat" usage
of putting the verb before the object that often throws Google translate
into twisted results of "Huh?!?"
