My favourite booklet is "Russian Language Documents from Russian Poland" published in 1989 by Jonathan D. Shea - who coAuthors with William F. Hoffmann on the In Their Words series.

This booklet is out of print but there may be copy in a public library or in a Family History Center. My FHC has a copy.

I've been one of the indexers on the Lublin Project, mostly indexing and proofreading Cyrillic records. I taught myself to read these parish records and bought volume II fairly early in that process. The examples of various kinds of Russian documents, including printed ones, and the careful examination of the standard texts of Napoleonic parish records are invaluable. But, even more useful, are the separate vocabulary lists for diseases and terms used in death records, occupations, general vocabulary terms found in records, and proper given names. The last list provides alternate, equivalent given names in various languages such as Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, German, English and Latin. Many of the vocabulary terms used in parish records are archaic and won't be found in an online translator or a Russian dictionary.

I intend to buy the Polish volume when I'm done indexing for the Lublin Project. Then my own family research will be moving back before 1860 when all my great-grandparents moved into Lublin parish. But they were all most likely still in Poland for at least another 50 years before that.

I purchased the book, In Their Words, Volume I: Polish many years ago and I
think it is the reference I use the most. It's more than assisting in
translation of documents. It's history, maps, sample documents of all kinds that
one might find and even assistance in finding documents. It's hard to describe
in an email all this book contains. I have 15 sticky notes on the pages I use
most. Google translate does not recognize abbreviations. This book addresses
various abbreviations found in its 40 some pages of vocabulary. The vocabulary
is followed by 20 pages of names, with the origin how that name translates to
  other languages.

I'm looking forward to the Russian book. I have many Cyrillic documents to
translate. It's the perfect companion to Volume I, which is still necessary when
  working with Cyrillic documents.

I've received more than $35 worth of value from Volume I and I expect to get
even more value out of Volume II, as that is where I need the most assistance,
starting with just understanding the structure of the language.

What is the book about and is it really worth purchasing?
