At the archives in Zhitomir a few years ago, they identified a couple of villages as being French colonies. I do not remember which ones they mentioned.

My grandmother, who lived northwest of Zhitomir from 1906 to 1928, spoke a smattering of French.

Thank you for mentioning this site, it is a comprehensive coverage of our 
Wandering Volhynians.

Although, it seems to me that credit to Catherine II influence in this vast 
movement is somewhat undue and overstated.
