[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Volhynians in Argentina (Javier Acosta)

In 1930 my Belke family, including Dad's mother as well as my mothers
Matthews family, including her mother, had tickets and proper
documentation to emigrate to Canada. Before boarding at Danzig a medical
examination was required. Unfortunatly it was determine both my
grandmothers had trachoma and they were not allowed to board the
ship. They had to stay behind. My Belke uncle and family stayed behind
with Oma Belke and my Tante Mattthews stayed behind with my Oma
Matthews. 1930 was the start of the Great Depression and soon Canada
stopped all immigration to Canada and soon after that came WW II. Both
grandmothers died during the war and none of these relatives ever came
to Canada.

Ive often wondered if some cash under the table would have changed the
course of history.

She was separated from her family but "attached" herself to another family traveling to Argentina. I don't know if this family knew our family. My grandmother did receive letters from her but no one remembers any of these except that grandma read them in German out loud and no letters were saved. So sad. LuAnn
