Dear List:

My great-grandmother Marie Scholl was born on October 1, 1876 in Gro_
Czymochen, East Prussia. Known today as Cimochy, it is a small town now in
the northeast corner of Poland, thirty miles south of Kaliningrad and forty
miles west of Lithuania and Belarus.

Marie married Wilhelm ter Jung and lived in Duisburg on the north Rhine in
the early 1900s before they and their two children sailed from Bremen to the
United States in 1925-27. On the passenger manifest, Marie listed as a near
relative remaining in Germany her brother (brother-in-law?) Karl Jorczik in
Duisburg.

I've checked LDS for microfilmed records from Gro_ Czymochen, but
unfortunately they don't seem to have any from the time of her birth.

I'd appreciate any help in:
- figuring out how to find her birth record and parents;
- knowing the culture and history of the area around Gro_ Czymochen;
- understanding possible reasons why sometime in the last quarter of the
19th century she (and her family?) moved from the farmland of Gro_ Czymochen
to the steel mills of Duisburg.

Many thanks, Greg Schulte, Great Falls, Virginia
