X and KS are interchangeable in German in final position. I have seen both
Marx and Marks in the records. I tend to use Marx *unless* I have reason to
believe (I have done a lot of work on a family in a specific parish) that the
spelling used is consistently Marks.

Polish is another story. Polish spelling was not standardized in the 19th
century, so X was used a lot. Two towns that will be familiar to many readers
are Alexandrsw and Xawersw. In modern Polish spelling, both are spelled with
KS: Aleksandrsw and Ksawersw. They are derivatives of the male given names
Aleksander and Ksawery.

Happy New Year to all.
