With all of the discussion lately on deportations, it seems appropriate to
mention again Don Miller's new book on the thousands of arrests in the 1930s
in the Zhitomir area. The deportations, arrests, executions and more came
about through a mindset that had a grip on that part of the world for
decades.

Don drew extensively from old KGB files in Zhitomir, and includes a list of
about 350 people who were in one large case file. (Three of my own relatives
were part of that file; all were shot.)

The book is called Under Arrest, and it's a hard-cover printed for Don by a
publisher in Zhitomir. More information is on Don's Web site,
http://www.inthemidstofwolves.com/ .

I realize this may sound a bit commercial, but Don has been a good friend of
SGGEE (and Volhynian reserach in general) for years. Besides, the book is a
good one.
