Good Afternoon Members. How do I begin? I don't know the protocol for
communicating with you, but have enjoyed reading your emails since I
subscribed.

My name is Edith Rimple McKelvy. I am a retired DOD-Navy budget
analyst/estimator in Silverdale WA.

I have been able to find some information on my paternal grandmother Anna
Schiller, born 1864 in Zhitomir Ukraine, and her Hammermeister family in
Murawa Ukraine through the Odessa3 database. But because of my inexperience
in research, I have now hit a brick wall and request your advice and
assistance.

I am seeking any information re the European life of my paternal grandfather
Fred/Fredrich/Franz Rempel/Rimpel (changed to Rimple in U.S. during WW1)
born 04 Dec 1867.

Fred Rempel and Anna Schiller were married somewhere in Prussia/Russia and
had a daughter Mary/Marie (about 1894) and a son William/Wilhelm (about
1892). A second son Fred was born at sea during the family's immigration to
Ramona South Dakota via Canada in 1896.

All of the info I have found simply states their birthplaces as "Prussia or
Russia" (US census, obits, passenger lists, etc.) Very likely I have missed
something! But without specific birthplaces, I can go no farther.

(My father Ernest Carl Rimple was born in Ramona SD in 1898, and the family
moved to Port Orchard WA in 1902.)

Rempel is a common Mennonite name, so Dr. Janzen searched his data bases at
GRHS convention in Portland OR last summer, but found nothing. He suspects
we were/are German Lutherans (affirmed by living relatives). Dave Obee also
offered advice during his excellent presentation at the convention.

I have searched "horizontally" also, as Fred Rempel and family immigrated
together with his brother August Rempel (wife Victoria) to the U.S. No
specific birthplace for August or Victoria either.

A third brother Wilhelm Rempel (wife Louise Jeske) immigrated to the
Barrhead-Westlock Alberta area circa 1918. Nothing on him either.

Any advice would be most appreciated. Best Wishes for the New Year!

Edith Rimple McKelvy
Silverdale WA

P.S. My mother, Olga (von)Brade Rimple, was born in Lesniakowizna Poland --
but that's another story!
