Hi Jerry,

thanks, you put me on the right track:
I have a Johann Christian Zarse in my d.b., born Dec. 15.1883 in Swiecia, 2 
days later than Marilyn's ancestor, son of Ferdinand Zarse and Emilie 
Stroschein. I first thought that he was the one we are looking for, but 
since the Andreas of the other Zarse family has matched much better and had 
a brother Christian, who has died in the USA, I was not sure about this 
one - although his sister Nathalie was born in Kramsk (=Cronski?) in 1882.

I have opened the ship manifest on the ellisisland website. The name of 
Johann's uncle is Ludwig Stroscher, which is a another spelling of 
Stroschein. (The correct spelling of this name is "Strohscherer" straw 
shearer).
Unfortunately the marriage Zarse/Stroschein or Stroscher does not appear in 
the Masterpedigree db and I did not find it in the Konin records. There is 
also no Emilie *1863 and the 3 Ludwig Stroscher or Strohscherer are too old.

This Emilie from Chodziec could fit:

and perhaps the marriage can be found in the Chodziec records.

Edelgard,

There is a Johann Zarse on the Ellis Island passenger ship list, arrived 
1905, born c.1884 and listed as a German from Russia.  He apparently was 
traveling together with an Emil Klatt who was from the same place.  The 
place of origin appears to be something like Zantwitz but I cannot find 
anything similar to that in our databases.  The Ellis Island extractors have 
a different interpretation but I think I am closer (I compared the first 
letter to that in Zarse and the first t to that in Klatt.  He must have gone 
back to Europe briefly as he arrives again later in the year on another 
ship.  In both cases he is traveling to be with an uncle, Ludwig Shoscher in 
Chicago.

There were Klatts at Paprockie not too far from Kramsk.  I tried a soundex 
search for Shoscher and came up with Zeuscher but no match for the region.

Don't know if this helps but perhaps there is a clue in there somewhere.

It is very difficult to find out if the LDS have been back to microfilm 
additional records.  They usually do not reveal such information in advance. 
Your advice about writing to the Archive in Konin was a good one.  Your
