My family too were involved in this Lastenausgleich.  At least my Mom's parents, although they received very little, from my understanding.

Both my Dad's (Berestowiec Kreis Kostopol area) and Mom's (Solomka Kr. Rowno area) sides were in Wolhynian from the 1860s to 1940, processed and resettled in Warthegau, then on to Germany and some to Canada from 1950-52.

As Sigrid said, some time in the 1960s this Lastenausgleich was being processed for ethnic Germans who lost territory and possessions during the resettlement - all the countries from which Germans were repatriated. There were members of my grandparents' church who helped members deal with the paperwork, I understand.


My Mom's parents did not get much from my understanding because part of it was based on need and they were reasonably well established by then financially.  My Dad's stepmother in Germany had been raising 7 children on her own since 1945 and was granted a fair sum.  Apparently during the 1939-40 process assets were recorded - somewhere - and some of the settlement was based on that.

As my father was just 15 in 1940, the settlement went to his stepmother, who of course had een widowed and raising his younger siblings and step-brother.

Don,

My parents' families lived in Lublin parish from about 1860-1940. They, 
too, were resettled to the Warthegau region, men served in the German 
army, and the families fled the Russians in 1945. We immigrated to the 
US in 1952 from the Hamburg area. Sometime in the 1960s my cousin, who 
taught high school German in a nearby town, helped my father apply for 
this kind of compensation for land lost in Poland. He and my uncle both 
received settlements of the kind you describe. I'm not sure I have the 
documents; I was only in high school or away at college at the time.
