I ran across this interesting site. For anyone contemplating writing a
family history, this might be worth a look.

Brooke Broadbent is a writing coach and life coach (among other things)
and, helps people write their family history.. He's written a booklet
called Fleshing the Bones. It can be read on line or downloaded (there
might be a fee for this). But you can browse the key points - it's only 45
pages with samples - making dry BMD facts mesh with historical fact
(current events) - and maybe injecting some "probable conversations" to
round out family legend and stories (you have a black sheep??) to create
your family history. Something to think about and certainly better than
dry facts.- which would otherwise bore the socks of your kids and
grandchildren!
