Hello Andy and Gary,
I think I found the reason, why the Posen province and Osterode,
Ostpreussen province have been somehow connected.

Since 1889 the "1. Posensche [infantry] Regiment Nr. 18", established in
1813 at Schweidnitz and stationed in Osterode before 1918, was named
"Regiment von Grolmann" (the Prussian general Karl Wilhelm Georg
v.GROLMANN was civil administrator of the Posen province and died 1843
in Posen). So the military service of Andrew's grandfather
(GGrandfather?) happend in the von Grolmann regiment Nr. 18.
