[Ger-Poland-Volhynia] Place in Germany

Is it possible that the person (possibly not the next of kin) thought
Roshen meant "Russian" as the place of birth or nationality?

However, there are some Rosen or similar villages in Manitoba.

There is a Rosser near Winnipeg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural_Municipality_of_Rosser

Also a Rosedale near Neepawa
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural_Municipality_of_Rosedale

and also a Rossburn
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rural_Municipality_of_Rossburn

You haven't given a name, but since deaths more than 70 years old in
Manitoba are indexed - you could check their database:

http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php

Unfortunately, the birth you want is 1915 and the database only lists those
OVER 100 years. Have to wait another year or so.
