Hello,

SGGEE is seeking volunteers with good knowledge of Russian and/or German and some experience with spreadsheets to assist with the extraction of birth, marriage, and death records in those languages.

One of the largest databases maintained by SGGEE is the Volhynia-Kiev-Podolia (VKP) database of Lutheran BMD records, with the majority of the records being from Volhynia. Researchers interested in the western Volhynia parishes of Rozyszcze, Wladimir-Wolynsk, and Lutzk are fortunate in that the original parish register books are held in the AGAD archive in Warsaw and further that AGAD has free online scans of records more than 100 years old.

SGGEE has an ongoing project to extract these records and add them to the VKP database along with links to the online scans. So far all of the Rozyszcze marriages (1862 to 1909), most of the Rozyszcze births (1862 to 1894) have been completed. Planned next is to finish the Rozyszcze births (to 1913), the Rozyszcze deaths (1862 to 1911) and then the records of Wladimir-Wolynsk and Lutzk parishes. The language of the records is German to 1891 and thereafter it is Russian. To demonstrate the utility of the database with scans of original records, just do a search for a marriage or birth record at https://www.sggee.org/research/PublicDatabases.html Then look for a link to the scan at the far right. Click the link to see the original record. If you don’t have anyone in Volhynia, try one of my surnames Rachui.
